Ang'ata Tarangire Camp is a well-regarded tented camp offering a classic safari experience within the heart of Tarangire National Park, Tanzania. It's known for its excellent location, comfortable tented accommodation, and traditional safari atmosphere.
Here's an overview:
Location & Setting:
Inside Tarangire National Park: A key advantage of Ang'ata Tarangire is its location directly within the national park. This means guests are immediately immersed in the wilderness and can enjoy early morning and late afternoon game drives without long transfers to and from the park gate.
Overlooking Tarangire River: The camp is situated overlooking the Tarangire River, a vital water source that attracts a huge concentration of wildlife, especially during the dry season.
Near Kuro Airstrip & Silale Swamp: It's conveniently located close to Kuro Airstrip (often just 1km away), making it easily accessible for fly-in safaris. It's also only about 5 km from the famous Silale Swamp Plains, known for attracting thousands of elephants.
Wildlife Viewing from Camp: Due to its prime location, it's common to see and hear wildlife, including elephants, zebras, giraffes, and various antelopes, in and around the camp. You might even spot the red eyes of hyenas at night.
Facilities & Services:
Main Camp Area: The communal area consists of a large lounge tent and a separate dining tent.
Lounge Tent: A comfortable space with locally fabricated sofas and armchairs, a bar, and a charging station for electronics. It's a place to relax and share safari stories.
Dining Tent: Meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are served here. The camp prides itself on fresh, delicious meals, often a mix of African and international cuisines. Bush lunches and dinners can sometimes be arranged.
Campfire (Bush TV): A traditional boma (campfire) area is set up in front of the main area, usually under a beautiful acacia tree. This is a popular spot for sundowners and evening relaxation under the stars.
Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi is generally available in the common areas.
Bar: A well-stocked bar is available in the lounge tent.
Gift Shop: Some reports indicate a small craft shop with African gifts and safari essentials.
Laundry Service: Available.
Accommodation:
Permanent Tented Camp: Ang'ata Tarangire features around 8 to 10 spacious, classic safari-style canvas tents. These are not basic camping tents but rather well-appointed structures.
En-suite Bathrooms: Each tent has a private en-suite bathroom with a flush toilet, a vanity desk with a sink, and a shower with hot water. The hot water supply is often solar-heated.
Comfortable Beds: Tents are furnished with comfortable beds, typically available in king, twin, or triple configurations, equipped with mosquito nets.
Private Verandas: Each tent has a private veranda or balcony area with safari chairs and a coffee table, allowing guests to relax and enjoy the surrounding views and wildlife.
Basic Amenities: Tents include bedside tables with lamps, a clothes hanger/luggage shelf, a lockable wooden storage box for valuables, a solar handheld light, and a whistle for security/room service. Charging stations for devices are typically in the main lounge tent.
Family Unit: There are usually family tents available, often consisting of two interconnected tents, providing more space for families or small groups.
Activities:
Game Drives: The primary activity, with daily game drives in Tarangire National Park to witness its renowned elephant herds, iconic baobab trees, big cats (lions, leopards, cheetahs), and diverse plains game.
Night Game Drives: A significant advantage of being located within the park (or a concession allowing it) is the possibility of night game drives, offering a chance to spot nocturnal animals. (Confirm availability with your booking).
Guided Walking Safaris: Depending on the specific location within the park, guided walking safaris with armed rangers might be offered, providing a different perspective on the bush.
Bird Watching: Tarangire is a fantastic birding destination, and guides can help spot the park's diverse birdlife.
Sundowners: Enjoying drinks and snacks at a scenic spot in the bush as the sun sets.
Hot Air Balloon Safaris: Available as an optional extra, offering breathtaking aerial views of the park at dawn.
