Adventure That Gives Back

Our purpose

Adventure that gives back

Ecolegacy Africa was started by people who worked in conservation before they worked in tourism. This page shows what that means for your trip, and only what we can stand behind.

Where it started

Ecolegacy Africa grew out of years of work across tourism and conservation in Tanzania, including in the Serengeti ecosystem and the Ruaha landscape.

Our mission is to offer sustainable tourism experiences that promote conservation and benefit local communities. Adventure That Gives Back is how we put that into practice: supporting conservation, supporting communities, and supporting conservation research.

What Adventure That Gives Back means

01 ยท Conservation

Restoring habitats

In the Uvidunda Mountains near Morogoro, we work with local conservation partners and communities to restore the Msowero River catchment. A community group, Marafiki wa Milima ya Uvidunda, raises the seedlings.

Guests can join in: on our November 2025 conservation safari, visitors hiking to Chizua Waterfall planted native trees along the riverbank.

02 ยท Communities

Clean water and sanitation for schools

We work with partners on WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) programmes in schools in the western Serengeti, including Maasai communities, and we include cultural tourism that benefits the communities we visit.

One example: girls’ toilets at Anthony Mtaka Secondary School, funded by The Rotary Foundation and the Rotary Clubs of Peace River and Northwest Spirit, Canada, in collaboration with Peace for Conservation.

Ecolegacy Africa hosted the Rotary visitors as our guests and connected them with the school.

03 ยท Research and learning

Supporting conservation research

We support the research and conservation work of the Tanzanian organisations we partner with. Students and researchers can travel with us to learn wildlife research and monitoring techniques in the field.

From your booking: part of what you pay for your trip supports the conservation work of our partner organisations, and wherever you travel with us you can meet them and learn about their work.

Responsible travel

Where your money goes

By choosing Ecolegacy Africa, your safari contributes to conservation, community livelihoods and responsible tourism in Tanzania. Your payment supports:

Wildlife and protected areas

Park entry and conservation fees that help protect national parks, wildlife habitats and biodiversity.

Local jobs and fair wages

Professional driver-guides, camp staff and operational teams are locally employed and fairly paid.

Tanzanian-owned lodges and suppliers

We give preference to Tanzanian-owned accommodation and service providers, strengthening the local economy.

Communities beside protected areas

Tourism revenue helps sustain communities living alongside protected areas, through jobs and local supply chains.

Lower-impact operations

Refillable water bottles on every trip instead of single-use plastic, and guides who stay on the tracks and keep a respectful distance from wildlife.

A safe, lasting business

Safety standards, vehicle maintenance, staff training and long-term operational sustainability.
