About Selous Mapumziko Lodge
Selous Mapumziko Lodge is a comfortable, mid-range safari accommodation located just outside the Mtemere Gate of Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve). The lodge’s name, “Mapumziko,” means “rest” in Swahili, and it aims to provide a tranquil and authentic retreat for travelers. Situated on a hill overlooking the Rufiji River, the lodge offers beautiful views of the surrounding wilderness, with the sounds of hippos and other wildlife a constant presence. It is a locally owned and managed establishment, known for its warm hospitality and a strong commitment to supporting the local community and conservation efforts.
The lodge offers a variety of accommodation options, including traditional mud-bandas, standard tents, and a family tent, all of which are spacious and feature en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water. The tents are elevated on platforms, offering a private space with a spectacular view. The main lodge area includes a restaurant serving a mix of local and international cuisine, a well-stocked bar, and a fireplace where guests can relax. Selous Mapumziko Lodge is an ideal base for a variety of activities, including game drives, guided nature walks, and boat safaris on the Rufiji River, providing a comprehensive and memorable safari experience.
