Mount Meru is a dormant stratovolcano located in Arusha National Park, Tanzania. It is the fifth-highest peak in Africa and the second-highest in Tanzania.

Mount Meru is located in the northern part of Tanzania, just 70 kilometers west of Mount Kilimanjaro, within the boundaries of Arusha National Park.

The standard trek takes 3 or 4 days. The 4-day itinerary is highly recommended as it allows for better acclimatization and significantly increases your chances of a successful and safe summit.

Its uniqueness comes from the blend of a mountain trek and a walking safari. The lower slopes of the mountain are within Arusha National Park, and trekkers are accompanied by an armed ranger to ensure safety as they encounter wildlife on foot.

The difficulty is considered moderate to challenging. While it is not as high as Kilimanjaro, the final ascent is steep and strenuous, and the altitude can still pose a risk of altitude sickness.

The summit success rate is generally very high, often over 90% for the recommended 4-day itinerary. The success rate is lower for the shorter 3-day trek due to less time for acclimatization.

Yes, for the final summit push, you will need a headlamp, warm gloves, a beanie, and a warm, insulated jacket. Trekking poles are also highly recommended for stability.
