Detailed Itinerary

Your journey begins with a convenient morning pick-up from either your hotel or the airport in Dar es Salaam, followed by a short transfer to the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) station. From there, enjoy a scenic and comfortable Max 2-hour train ride to Morogoro. Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed by your safari guide for a 2-hour drive to Mikumi National Park. In the afternoon, set out on your first thrilling game drive in the park. As the day winds down, you’ll check in and unwind at lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

Wake up early to spend a full day exploring the diverse landscapes of Mikumi National Park from sunrise to sunset. Your safari will take you through iconic habitats such as the hippo pools, ancient baobab tree zones, and vast acacia woodlands, where you can spot a wide variety of wildlife, including elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, and more. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the heart of the park, surrounded by nature’s tranquility.  After an exhilarating day on game drives, in the evening, visit the Maasai bomas and experience their local traditions and lifestyles. Return to the lodge for a restful overnight stay.

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Nyerere National Park, a journey of approximately 5 to 6 hours that offers plenty of opportunities for game viewing along the way. As you traverse the changing landscapes, keep an eye out for wildlife sightings, making the transfer itself a part of the safari adventure. Arrive in the late afternoon just in time to enjoy a magical sunset before checking in at the comfortable Lodge. Relax and unwind, soaking in the peaceful surroundings as you prepare for the exciting days ahead. Overnight at the Lodge.

Experience a full-day safari in Nyerere National Park, Africa’s largest wildlife sanctuary and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Traverse its expansive wilderness on game drives where you’ll have the chance to spot iconic species such as rare African wild dogs, majestic elephants, powerful lions, hippos wallowing in the rivers, and stealthy crocodiles. The park is also a paradise for birdwatchers, boasting a rich diversity of birdlife that adds color and sound to the pristine landscapes. After a thrilling day immersed in nature, return to your lodge for a relaxing overnight stay.

Start your day with an optional guided walking safari, exploring the bush on foot with an experienced ranger who will help you discover animal tracks, plants, and the subtle signs of wildlife life not visible from the vehicle. In the late afternoon, set out on a serene boat safari along the Rufiji River as the sun begins to set. This magical cruise offers spectacular views of hippos, crocodiles, and a vibrant array of birdlife, all bathed in the golden glow of dusk. Cap off the experience with a classic African sundowner by the riverbank before returning to the lodge for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, depart Nyerere National Park and begin the journey back to Dar es Salaam. Along the way, visit local villages where you can engage with the communities, learn about their traditions, and daily life offering a unique cultural insight into rural Tanzania. Upon arrival in Dar es Salaam, you will be dropped off at your hotel or the airport for your onward travel.
