Overview

A relaxed introduction to the south. You leave Dar es Salaam on the fast SGR train to Morogoro and continue to Mikumi for two nights on its open plains. Then you cross to Nyerere for river safaris, a full game drive and an optional walk with a ranger. The south has far fewer vehicles than the north, so sightings are often yours alone.

Highlights

  • The SGR train from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro
  • Mikumi’s hippo pools, baobabs and open plains
  • A visit to a Maasai boma near Mikumi
  • A sunset boat safari and sundowner on the Rufiji River
  • A chance of African wild dogs in Nyerere
