Overview

This safari is timed around the Great Wildebeest Migration. After a night in Arusha you head to Tarangire, then north to the volcanic landscapes of Lake Natron, one of the world’s most important breeding sites for lesser flamingos. Crossing the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you stop at Olduvai Gorge before two nights in the central Serengeti, where your guide follows the herds and the predators that move with them. The Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara complete the circuit.

Where the herds are depends on the season. See when to visit.

Highlights

  • A full day in Tarangire, among baobabs and large elephant herds
  • Lake Natron and its lesser flamingos, beneath the Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano
  • A stop at Olduvai Gorge, with its small museum
  • Two nights in the central Serengeti with the migration, depending on the season
  • A game drive on the Ngorongoro Crater floor, where black rhino are sometimes seen
