Overview

Nyerere National Park, formerly part of the Selous Game Reserve, is one of the largest and wildest protected areas in Africa, and one of the best places to look for African wild dogs. This short safari shows it three ways: from the water on the Rufiji River, from the vehicle on a full-day game drive, and on foot with an experienced ranger.

It suits travellers with only a few days, or anyone adding a safari to a stay in Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar.

Highlights

  • A sunset boat safari on the Rufiji River, among hippos, crocodiles and water birds
  • A full-day game drive from miombo woodland to open floodplain
  • A chance of African wild dogs, for which the park is known
  • A morning walking safari with an experienced ranger
  • Far fewer vehicles than the northern parks
